i will love you until the end of time.

Something you need to know about me.
I have one particular principle that I hold very highly:
Beyonce can fix everything.
So when I was down-and-out-sick for a week naturally I would just lay in bed and watch The Beyonce Experience and allow her healing power to fix my bones. But legit I strongly feel that she will be the end to world conflict, cause it`s everyone`s common ground. Perhaps in history at some point there have been people who have mildly disliked her music, fair, but no one has ever hated Beyonce.  Ever.
So in honour of me being back to life and cranking through my late assignments by running on Beyonce-induced adrenaline, here`s a gem of her last album that flew under the radar.

also note that Les Twins (absolutely two of the world's greatest hip hop dancers) are dancing with her. does my life get any better.
God speed. <3

EXAMPLE IS A RAPPER AGAIN!

EXAMPLE'S A RAPPER AGAIN
made me really sad when on his last album my favourite rapper became a singer. He's just such a talented lyricist and there are less of him when he sings. this makes me feel like I'm back in Newcastle watching him rip across the stage to subtly tweaked arrangements.
so painfully jealous of the lucky brits who have tickets to his sold out UK arena tour since he plays with a band and the sounds are so huge.

the album comes out november 4th and it's gonna be a legend. the last one was mostly singing and was a bit vanilla, but with tracks produced by Benga, Feed Me, Skream, and a bunch o friends i'm super stoked for the new release. There's a big sampler of it here. enjoy :)

this is the guy i missed.
so happy for him.

cheers.

Purity Ring X Danny Brown

since illness has left me bed-ridden, infinite thanks to Purity Ring for making my beli happy
(and by belly we mean kidneys. rawr.)

whoever thought hip hop would be their pot of tea?
(not that i would ever doubt them. i mean please, they're 1/2 haligonian)
but this is just such a logical transition. perfect. clean.
I just hope and pray that they play this at the HPX show.

cheers + illness

a little May 2-4 treat

without bragging... i pride myself in having recognized all four samples featured in this masterclash upon my first encounter with it.
'scuse me... got some dirt on ma shoulders.

yes you're hearing little slices of
GORILLAZ + CHIDDY BANG + TINIE TEMPAH + LABRINTH

you just can't argue with Xaphoon Jones.
Stylo by Chiddy Bang has long since been a favourite, and Labrinth plays it off nicely by pulling in some UK grime courtesy of Tinie Tempah
So many vocal samples, so much jamming out with the sunroof down.

To all my fellow Canadians driving home from their long weekend at the cottage, have a lovely last evening of freedom, and let us toast to the great Queen Victoria for having given us this much needed birthday holiday.

God save the Queen.

cause we all need some way of to entertaining ourselves.

if you're restless like I am, and need some form of constant audio stimulus, have a casual soundcloud set.

thanks to ma gurr
KAY
for putting up a compilation of your entire life as an artist :) you're fun.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
canadian, great hair, fun chick rap, diplo remixes (we like diplo) also, friends of  cherrytree records and therefore frankmusik (we like frankmusik).

if you're impatient and don't feel like suffering through the whole exhausting 14 tracks, do "Dum Diddy" or the one with Frankmusik.
aiight i'm out.

cheers to smooth transitions between artists in one post.

ICONA POP
you cheeky little muses.

these gals have a tendency of delivering those typically swedish synths that never fail to make me swoon. although as a rule i have a soft spot for any female swedish dj.

NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
1. adorable swedish chatter to warm you up
2. ribbons and swedish fashion
3. the best verse ever at 1.07. mention the space and the 90s in one frame and you just triggered a whole nother level of praise.
4. such a killer party track, like jacked up swedish dragonette. i'm dying and blasting this track out every window at the moment.

ASIDE: If you'd like to hear more about the girls, there's a wonderful Rolling Stone article (so eloquently written, definitely my style of journalism.... what i enjoy reading at least) in which they discuss Sweden in relation to their music and fashion. a particularly good read.

(get ready for a smooth transition kids)
speaking of icona pop...

bout time
CHIDDY BANG
released mind your manners, and as expected the video is just as playful and childish as the track. been blasting this song way too loud in res since Breakfast came out, and here on this corner of the internet
we like any excuse to look at Xaph wreaking havoc with a baseball bat.

video makes me nostalgic for warehouse videos like Alphabeat's early work. Can't go wrong with bubbly Danish pop
(why am i so helplessly attached to Scandinavia. just get me there already.)

now get dancing little birds!

nasty bass

have we talked about example yet?
well the man's easily my number one UK rapper... seen him twice live and his songs lend so well to performance... he's so fresh and inventive in dance music, mixing catchy hooks with rap with dubstep/drum n bass/house that is a little dark, a little happy pop, but not overwhelming.

what a strapping young brit.
well his latest single MIDNIGHT RUN (with a pretty stunning video shot in Iceland) has had me on a little treasure hunt of finding beats.

it's got so many layers and sections but it works... oh just wait for that cheeky dubstep breakdown at the 2.53 minute mark. snuck up and bit ya didn't it.
one of the best two tracks on the album for SURE.

found out FEED ME produced the track. so i had to further investigate the realms of the interwebs to find this gem of a brit DJ.

this thing is freakin beautiful. just beautiful.
enjoy, kids.

forever a 90s kid

aiight kids.
bust out them walkmen walkmans and side ponytails.
it's 90s time with A-1.

anyone who releases an album that remixes 90s-early 2000s tv theme songs is
gold in my books.
his rhymes have a serious chiddy bang vibe (no complaints) with a playful, nostalgic spin.
there's something so familiar about the cheesy Price is Right horns and Pokemon guitar riffs.
could seriously rock some corn pops right now.

for some reason Price is Right is always on when i'm sick.
i feel ill in the best possible way when i play this song.

Golden Girls--so dang funky.

mashed and exploded

kids and explosions
don't we all love a good chill mashup?
discovered this guy about a year ago, he's the cousin of a friend and is such an interesting dj.
gotta say i've been listening to mashups since girl talk ripped the night
Back then it was all about a really simple rock beat... things were a little predictable but so funky fresh.
naturally I'll always hold a cozy little place in my heart for a classic mashup with a rock bassline, hip hop vocals and a little pop melody.
Since then they've gotten kinda glitzy, complex, housey, the beat's gotten a little more dancey which is grand and all but we're all kinda over it.

then there's kids and explosions.

his whole scene lies in super super choppy lyrics all spliced up and sewn together on top of lax rock/pop riffs and beats.
pop a little chewed up biggie on some messed up bowie and somehow this kid has injected a little life into the stale mashup. for this you deserve a salute good sir.

The New Science is my favourite........ and if your mama's not around Swear Words will doubtlessly get you on your feet.

Hey look.... I did manage to go a whole post without mentioning Robyn.
see, I am capable.
