i suppose they call it chillstep?

there's something about over-compartmentalizing electronic music that i'm  endlessly attached to, yet naturally reject. chillstep just sounds like a cop-out to me. seems like artists keep conjuring up new names for things that can be described more in depth using current terms. maybe i'd say something closer to acoustic indie ambient trance...
 but call me old fashioned.

the original by Benjamin Francis Leftwich

(backwards in the video title. idiots.)
was one of my top travel jams when i was backpacking, and whenever i was by the sea it kept me feeling like i never actually moved. lovely to see it revisited with a couple rimshots and a bit of ambient echo. his voice can really do anything.

while we're discussing chill indie vibes one can't ignore this gem.

go make some toast and enjoy something slightly uptempo.

new things to dance to

so many new tings! i hate doing big blog posts but it seems necessary now doesn't it.

TRAMPBOAT
the Finnish duo (yet another outlet for us to exercise our mad scando love) finally birthed a new glorious single. considering the soundcloud looks like a caterpillar that went through a shredder, things are guaranteed to get wild
it's seems to be begging for vocals.... DJs of the world, have at it. it's cool, i'll wait.

SWINDLE
is that cowbell i hear.... SOLD.
the Londonner who once brought you this pretty ting now brings you new tings, as you see below. didn't expect the drop to bring about some good ol UK Funky, but oh what a pleasant surprise
dang i hate crappy outtros. can't wait for it to be officially released so we can skip the uncomfortable fade out.

THE MAGICIAN
just getting into The Magician and loving his steady, straight up indie groove
no surprises, just a really clean and funky. have a new remix he did of a nifty RAC track.

signing off.
cheers.

SYNTHETICA

oh hey there fellow nationalists, have a little sneak at the new album Synthetica from
the second-to-none Canadian indie rock outfit
METRIC
always an indie-kid favourite, unparalleled live, with forever hardcore poetic lyrics, and an unarguably killer babe for a vocalist.
must be the water in this country. we breed em well.

I like Youth Without Youth best, feels like a classic rock n' roll track: simple, punchy and grittylove how the voice of sequin-drenched Emily Haines can cut through any stiff guitar riff and make it feel soft. what a gal.

overall: pretty classic Metric, kinda zazzy, but not as anthemic (totally a word) and indie-dance-inducing as their last killer album

keep an ear out regardless, album drops June 12.
til then, cheers.

i swear i do blog about things other than robyn.

THIS DESERVES SO MUCH ATTENTION.
FLEET FOXES COVERING TLC
(can i not get a bigger font...)

can i put this on every corner of the internet?
can i scream this through the streets?
can i fall asleep to it and dream it in technicolour?

i seem to be continuing on this vein of acoustic posts...
but hey. we all need a little tender lovin care

cheers ducks foxes.

your regular nugget of robyn news.

do i have a stupid amount of work to do?
affirmative.
does robyn news take priority over the $7500 i'm paying in tuition?
AFFIRMATIVE.

welcome to
THE CONCEPT
a fresh little indie outfit comprised of robyn's bandmates

if you're feeling some fun summer driving music in the middle of this brisk January chill then meet the swedes. you'll find some punchy summer guitar and rockin bass drum complete with blonde bedhead and ray bans. *siiigh* will this video ever make you miss exploring.

also there's a fun little electro breakdown around 2.15 to validate me putting this ting on what's normally a strictly electroblog. believe it or not i do sometimes venture outside the realm of robot sounds. sometimes i'm part human.

ilovesweden.net also did a cute little acoustic session with them
(yes that's a real place on the internet... good heavens i'll never get to this paper)

so grab those sunglasses and swim trunks kids and hit the streets in your high spirits and tasty spirits.
