HAIM

i hate it when bloggers say sorry repeatedly for a lapse in their regular posting routine, i mean really, chill out mang.
but i'll admit i've been holding out for something mind-blowing and that thing is so seriously and sincerely and obviously...

HAIM

LA-based girl band,
opening for Florence + The Machine,
who clearly has good taste considering their contagious lax vibe.
the part of me that is so deeply devoted to Fleetwood Mac and the "je-ne-sais-quoi" quality in Stevie Nicks' voice is on fire. they're so electric for no reason i can articulate. i can seriously see why they're exploding.

(also... they totally covered Fleetwood Mac for a tribute album. check it. arrangement is killer.)

it's really satisfying calling Haim a "girl band," since, in listening to their tracks you get the impression that they're just a great band with a unique and distinctive sound, nothing showy, very modern and clever. i really love their use of electronic percussion in a rock song, feels organic.

i'm gonna like these guys for a REALLY long time.
cheers.

SYNTHETICA

oh hey there fellow nationalists, have a little sneak at the new album Synthetica from
the second-to-none Canadian indie rock outfit
METRIC
always an indie-kid favourite, unparalleled live, with forever hardcore poetic lyrics, and an unarguably killer babe for a vocalist.
must be the water in this country. we breed em well.

I like Youth Without Youth best, feels like a classic rock n' roll track: simple, punchy and grittylove how the voice of sequin-drenched Emily Haines can cut through any stiff guitar riff and make it feel soft. what a gal.

overall: pretty classic Metric, kinda zazzy, but not as anthemic (totally a word) and indie-dance-inducing as their last killer album

keep an ear out regardless, album drops June 12.
til then, cheers.
